The
Cavaliers Orchestra has a heritage of playing great music throughout the
Southern states. Since 1946, thousands of people have enjoyed listening and
dancing to the exciting “BIG BAND” sounds of this wonderful professional
band. Their repertoire includes the
popular standard songs of the “SWINGING YEARS” as well as some latin,
novelties, show tunes, light rock, holiday, jazz and country favorites.
The
17 piece band is made up of some of the finest musicians in the area and
includes 5 Saxes, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Piano, Bass, Drums, and Guitar.
Within the band there are 3 male vocalists and a female vocalist.
The
Cavaliers Orchestra was formed by Jimmy Fuller in 1946.
Other leaders have included John Beecher, Earl Baker, Orlando DiFabio,
John Shur, Frank Robertson, Alan Ramsay, and Mickey Lutrell.
George Corradino has been the leader since 1992.
The band has a library of over 450 songs arranged by some of the most
outstanding big band arrangers in the country, 200 of which are fully rehearsed
and performed on a regular basis. They
have 5 uniforms from formal to casual and have the highest quality equipment
including a sound system, music stands, lighting, and an equipment trailer.
The Cavaliers have recorded two CD’s which have met with much success.
They
have played for many outstanding parties and events throughout the southeast
including reunions, dances, wedding receptions, birthday and anniversary
celebrations, bar mitzvahs, debutante and Mardi Gras balls and other holiday
parties. In addition, the Cavaliers
Orchestra has played for hundreds
of company parties, shows, Miss Georgia pageants, dedications, grand openings,
and conventions. They have played
for many celebrities, generals, mayors, congressmen, and governors.
The
band has also performed with many great entertainers and bandleaders including
Bob Hope, Warren Covington, Billy Butterfield, Wayne King, Doc Severinson, Joe
Williams, Dean Hudson, Julius La Rosa and Marilyn May.
They have performed concerts in a variety of venues including local
amphitheatres, riverfront events, the Bradley Theatre Ballroom, the Springer and
Liberty Theaters, and for the Anniversary Celebration in the Bill Heard Theatre
at the Rivercenter for the Performing Arts.
The
orchestra has played in area restaurants and lounges on a regular basis and also
plays for many events at the Convention and Trade Center, Civic Center, Callaway
Gardens, LaGrange, Ga., Auburn Al., and Fort Benning.
They also have played for many senior citizen events, concerts in the
park, charitable and civic benefits, and the Columbus Jazz Society.
